Inter are officially the Winter Champions of Serie A for the 2021-22 season, securing the title with a round to spare after Milan lost at home to Napoli.

The Nerazzurri are on 43 points, with Milan and Napoli in joint second place on 39.

That means Simone Inzaghi’s men cannot be caught at the top of the table in the final round of the first half of the season, which is played midweek.

The Campione d’Inverno is the title given to the team top of the Serie A table midway through the campaign.

Traditionally, it has been an indicator for who goes on to win the Scudetto, achieved in 67 per cent of occasions.

Milan were the Winter Champions last season and failed to take the trophy, losing out to Inter.

Since 2004-05, the only teams to be Winter Champions and not go on to win the Scudetto were Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli in both 2015-16 and 2017-18, plus Milan last term.
