According to reports in Italy, Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen will return to Milan in the second week of July to undergo new medical tests.

The 29-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s debut game at UEFA Euro 2020 against Finland.

He was given urgent CPR on the pitch before being taken to hospital, where a few days after the incident, he underwent surgery to implant a heart defibrillator.

However, his Serie A career is in doubt as it’s forbidden to play with a heart defibrillator implanted, as per the Cardiological Organizational Committee for Sports Fitness protocol, which was updated in 2017.

Any contact sport is forbidden in Italy with such a device implanted, while it is possible to continue playing in other leagues.

Inter have signed Hakan Calhanoglu as a free agent with the former Milan star who could potentially replace Eriksen.

Marotta confirms Hakimi’s Inter exit and provides updates on Lautaro and Eriksen

“There is great respect for the man before then for the footballer. We hope Eriksen recovers his health and his full efficiency,” Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta said on Thursday.

“After that, we will evaluate the sporting aspects that at this time are definitely less important.”

According to Calciomercato.com, Eriksen will return to Milan in the second week of July. Clearly, he won’t be able to train, but he will meet his teammates and talk to new coach Simone Inzaghi before undergoing new medical examinations, hoping that the heart defibrillator can be removed.
