Inter released a statement confirming Valentino Lazaro has tested positive for COVID-19, but it could be a false positive result.

It is noted in the announcement that Lazaro has a ‘low viral load.’

That means it could be a false positive and he will undergo another test over the next few days, following a period of self-isolation.

Lazaro spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and had hoped to make the move permanent.

His future is up in the air, as the right-back is on the transfer market.

It’s reported there is interest from Benfica, but Lazaro would prefer a destination in England or Germany.

Inter paid €22.4m to sign Austria international Lazaro from Hertha Berlin in 2019, but he barely featured for the Nerazzurri.

There were loan spells at Newcastle United and Borussia Monchengladbach for the 25-year-old.

Lazaro has three goals in 32 senior caps for Austria, but made just 11 competitive appearances for Inter, for a total 513 minutes of football.
