Inter have officially confirmed Lautaro Martinez as the new club captain, referencing the hit film Barbie.
The departures of both Samir Handanovic and Marcelo Brozovic this summer left the Nerazzurri without a captain, and the Argentinian striker has been the obvious choice to take on the armband, having worn it on a number of occasions last season.
Lautaro has grown into a talismanic figure for Inter since his arrival in 2018 and reportedly rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia recently in a show of loyalty to the Milanese club.
As announced today, Lautaro is now Inter’s new club captain, with Nicolo Barella being promoted to vice-captain. Lisa Alborghetti is the captain of the Inter Women squad.
The Nerazzurri’s announcement referenced the marketing material of the new Barbie film, which is competing to be the top summer blockbuster against Oppenheimer.
Lautaro has made 238 appearances across all competitions for Inter since his arrival in 2018, scoring 102 goals and providing 36 assists in that time.
Cuadrado shoulda been the captain, like when Milan then-appointed Bonucci.
