Inter’s fears about Hakan Calhanoglu have materialised following a round of medical tests, which confirmed the presence of a thigh muscle injury.

The 29-year-old midfielder was forced off the pitch in the 38th minute of Turkey’s Euro 2024 qualifier loss to Croatia, looking pained as he exited the playing area.

Calhanoglu returned to Milan and Inter were concerned that he could be sidelined for a number of weeks during a crucial stage of the season, fears that have now been realised.

As announced today, Calhanoglu underwent medical tests today which confirmed that he’s suffered a muscular distraction to the adductor of the right thigh, an issue that’ll force him out of action for a few weeks.

The Turkish midfielder will undoubtedly miss Inter’s upcoming game against Fiorentina and is also at risk of missing the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Juventus as well as the league game against Salernitana and the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Benfica.

  1. This is exactly why teams hate International breaks. Key players return as damaged goods, with no compensation.
