Inter coach Simone Inzaghi praises the ‘spectacular’ Lautaro Martinez and thanks the club President and directors after a 1-0 win over Napoli in the Supercoppa Final.

The Nerazzurri won their third consecutive Supercoppa trophy on Monday, beating defending Serie A champions Napoli in Riyadh.

“We played two spectacular games and I want to thank the club that has never made us lack anything,” Inzaghi told Lega Serie A.

The Piacenza-born tactician said Napoli “fought like lions”, but he was “always confident” the Nerazzurri would win.

“Napoli had changed the system, and we were good at scoring at minute 90. I am happy because we tried to score until the end.”

Captain Lautaro Martinez scored a late winner, finding the net for the 21st time in 27 games across all competitions this season.

“He is a real captain, a great man and footballer,” said Inzaghi.

“You see him on the pitch and I see him every day in training. I see the way he helps the team. He has had six spectacular months, now the target is to end the season in the best way.”

Lastly, Inzaghi honoured the late Gigi Riva.

“We learned [about his death] after the first half. I had known him at Coverciano. He leaves a big void.”
