Inter are expected to lock down defender Alessandro Bastoni to a new contract to 2028, giving him a significant salary boost.

It has been the perfect week for the Nerazzurri, who went into third place in Serie A and then beat rivals Milan to book their place in the Champions League Final.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, that progress and reaching the Coppa Italia Final too has all helped convince Bastoni to extend his contract at San Siro.

The former Atalanta defender had been a target for the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, he is expected to sign a new deal worth an initial €5.5m per season plus bonuses, increasing year on year to reach the €6.5m that had been requested by agent Tullio Tinti.

It is a crucial time for Inter, because Bastoni is only under contract until June 2024 and they have already lost Milan Skriniar as a free agent this summer.

The 24-year-old was purchased from Atalanta in 2017 for a massive €31.1m, when he was only 18 years old.

That proved to be an inspired investment, as his value on the transfer market is now circa €60m.
