Following the injury suffered by Francesco Acerbi, Inter have started looking around for defensive reinforcements, identifying a number of possible options.

The 34-year-old centre back has been forced to withdraw from the Italy squad ahead of the upcoming European Championship due to pubalgia issues, which’ll force him to undergo an operation on Monday next week.

Acerbi will remain part of the Inter defence for next season, as well fellow veteran Stefan de Vrij, but the injury has prompted the club to start considering their options for the backline as they prepare for a busy 2024-25 campaign.

Calciomercato.com details how Inter have started identifying a number of possible reinforcements to strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s defence in the summer, with some proving more convincing than others.

The Nerazzurri’s top targets are Torino pair Perr Schuurs and Alessandro Buongiorno, but neither would come cheap and negotiating with Urbano Cairo is never easy, prompting them to highlight some alternatives.

Udinese’s Jaka Bijol is on the list, as are Anderlecht’s Zeno Debast, Lille’s Leny Yoro and Odense’s Tobias Slotsager. For now though, the Nerazzurri’s priority is a new centre forward to bolster the frontline.
