Romelu Lukaku is reportedly pushing to return to Inter, but will need a 50% pay cut to wear the Nerazzurri shirt again.

The Belgium international is having a tough time at Stamford Bridge and is pushing to leave the club in the summer. Calciomercato.com confirms that the 28-year-old has informed his former club that he wants to return.

Lukaku has reportedly spoken to Inter directors and some of his former teammates, telling them he wants to return. However, the Nerazzurri must balance the books so he can only afford the striker’s return on loan.

Lukaku would also need to take a 50% pay cut. He is currently on a €13-14m deal in London and Inter can’t offer more than €6-6.5m per season. The Nerazzurri can’t even use the Growth Decree as Lukaku left Italy only one year ago.

The Belgian striker has yet to find the net in Premier League games in 2022. Last week, he shared a cryptic tweet just before the Coppa Italia Derby della Madonnina won 3-0 by the Nerazzurri.

8 thought on “Inter can afford Lukaku’s return on two conditions”
  1. Lukaku needs Conte or he’s average. At Inter, he was fuelled by anger and overperformed. Now, he’s reverting to his average. It’s basic maths. It would be foolish of inter to take him back and expect the same over performing player.

  2. Had his chance and blew it! Thanks for the two years, but no thanks to coming back!
Rather go for Scamacca, or Belotti on a free, and bring back Satriano….

  3. I don’t think Lukaku will play as he did last season if he comes back tho… but it will be interesting to find out

  4. It would be lovely to see the old goalscoring Lukaku back att Inter, but I don’t think you can reheat this soup.

“The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.”

  5. This is amazing to me, all the people that think Lukaku would some how fail to impress upon an Inter return.
How much Inter have you guys watched this season? All teams are pressing us high, all the way to Handa. Dzeko can do OK under such circumstances, as his knockdown for Hakan, to unleash Dumfries, showed against Roma. But Lukaku? He would have been able to run in behind, himself! Would have been Rom, Dumfries AND Barella, leading that break.

In short, bringing Lukaku back, even at the cost of losing Lautaro (which I would prefer we not do) would completely change the way Inter play, and how our opponents line up against us.
