Inter are still without a goalkeeper and reports in Argentina suggest they have asked Aston Villa about World Cup winner Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez.

The Nerazzurri released Samir Handanovic at the end of his contract and sold Andre Onana to Manchester United, but do not have any replacements yet as they begin their pre-season tour in Japan.

Negotiations continue with Bayern Munich for Swiss international Yann Sommer, while Anatoliy Trubin of Shakhtar Donetsk is another target.

According to TyC Sports in Argentina, Inter have approached Aston Villa with a €15m proposal for 2022 World Cup winner Martinez.

The offer was rejected, but this could be just the start of the negotiation process.

Inter have a long history of links with Argentina, including current striker Lautaro Martinez and their legendary vice-president Javier Zanetti.

Dibu Martinez turns 31 in September and made the move from Arsenal to Aston Villa for €17.4m in 2020.

He was named best goalkeeper of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, courting controversy by making a lewd gesture with the trophy.
