Inter wing-back Tajon Buchanan had successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia sustained on international duty with Canada and is expected to be out for four to six months.

The incident occurred during a training session on Tuesday, when there was an accidental coming together.

It was immediately obvious this was a very serious injury, as Buchanan had to be taken away by ambulance to a local hospital and the training was cancelled.

He had the operation this morning in Fort Worth Texas, where Canada are based for the Copa America, and was visited in hospital by the squad with coach Jesse Marsch.

Buchanan will remain in Dallas and is expected to be back at the team hotel on Thursday.

If Canada progress in the Copa America, then he also aims to travel with the squad to continue being part of the experience.

Inter do not expect the player to be back on the field for four to six months.
