Inter are continuing work to protect their assets and recently opened contract renewal talks with Nicolo Barella.

The Nerazzurri have been hard at work in recent months, working on new deals for various key players in Simone Inzaghi’s squad like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, Federico Dimarco, Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez.

Inter impressed last season by reaching the Champions League final and have maintained that momentum this season, rising to the top of the Serie A table and reaching the knockout stages of Europe’s premier club competition.

Page three of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Inter recently met with Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami to start contract negotiations. The two parties will have another meeting soon, keen to set up a new deal quickly.

Whilst there’s no major urgency, neither party want to delay and current indications suggest that pen could be put to paper on a new contract in the early weeks of the new year.

Barella currently earns around €5m net per season plus almost €1m in add-ons and this deal expires in 2026. The idea is to extend to 2028 and increasing his salary a little, something the midfielder is happy with.
