Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio calls Ivan Perisic 'the hardest transfer' and has great expectations of Geoffrey Kondogbia: 'His value will grow'.
The Nerazzurri earned a lot of attention this summer with what was arguably the most dramatic transfer campaign in Serie A, but Ausilio decided not to pass judgment yet.
“The only one who can give us a grade is the pitch,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “And not after two or three games, but at the end of May.
“If we've made it at least into the Champions League by then, the vote will be positive.”
Ausilio was then questioned as to the hardest transfer operation of the summer.
“It would be too obvious to mention Kondogbia, so I'll say Perisic instead.
“We went to pick up a player from a very rich club who did not want to sell him.
“His desire to join us, our determination, and a touch of strategy allowed us to make it.
“Kondogbia? We'd started work on that a long time earlier and we've been familiar with the player from the times of Sevilla.
“Those three days in Monaco were hard because we were under pressure by the media, but we made it.”
Asked whether the Frenchman was paid too much at a cost of €40m for the Biscione, Ausilio did not agree.
“For a start, we're glad we signed him and aren't seeing him play in somebody else's colours.
“We did pay something extra, but the price was determined by the media value of the operation.
“And a few years from now the current price will stay the same, or it may even be less than the player's actual value.
“Why did Perisic take so long? Two months were too long, but they could have been not enough.
“We worked ahead with perisic too, since we'd already set him as our target for a year now.
“The result is the main thing and now we have Perisic.
“Buying a player of his quality for €16m is an excellent result, as taking away such strong players from Wolfsburg isn't easy.
“We had to wait until a few exit transfers were all in the right place.”
