Inter are facing a major dilemma over the future of Lautaro Martinez, who scored a brace against Milan last night but hasn’t always been consistent this season.

The Argentinean striker was the Man Of The Match in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semis against Milan yesterday and his brace was decisive for the Benamata to collect their first win against Milan this term.

Despite his 19 goals in 42 appearances (one every 143 minutes), Lautaro hasn’t always been consistent this term and scored his first goals in 2022 only one month ago in a 5-0 win over Salernitana at San Siro.

From Lautaro to Ceballos: Inter’s mission in Madrid

He has recently signed a contract extension with the Nerazzurri until 2026, but his future remains up in the air. Lautaro no longer has a €111m release clause included in his contract, but according to reports in Italy, Inter will listen to offers in the region of €70-80m for their striker in the summer.

Tuttosport and Corriere dello Sport reported last week that Piero Ausilio discussed the future of El Toro with Real and Atletico Madrid at the beginning of March, although neither La Liga giant has placed an official offer.

Milito on Inter’s key player against Milan and Lautaro’s future

Inter legend Diego Milito said yesterday that Lautaro always tells him that he is happy in Milan and is not considering leaving the club. However, Inter may need to sell another one of their stars in the summer to balance the books and Lautaro seems to be one of the candidates. Paulo Dybala is seen as a possible replacement for the Argentinean with the Juventus striker who could move to Inter as a free agent.

Many Inter fans didn’t seem against the sale of Lautaro, given his hot and cold performances this season, but after last night’s brace against their city rivals, some may have changed their stance. What should Inter do with Lautaro: keep him or sell him? Let us know in the comments section below.
