Inter have announced that club legend Riccardo Ferri has been appointed as their new club manager, replacing Lele Oriali.

The role had been a controversial one, as Oriali shared it with his duties on Italy coach Roberto Mancini’s staff.

Instead, the Nerazzurri have brought in Ferri, who turns 59 next month and spent almost his entire career at San Siro.

The centre-back came up through the Inter academy, wore the jersey from 1981 to 1994, retiring in 1996 after a two-season stint at Sampdoria.

Ferri was a key figure in Giovanni Trapattoni’s legendary squad, winning the Scudetto, two UEFA Cups, the Italian Supercup and Coppa Italia.

He put together 418 competitive appearances for the club in 13 seasons.

In recent years, Ferri had been working as a television pundit and was also named a brand ambassador for Inter.
