Inter reveal Romelu Lukaku has suffered a new muscle injury and will be assessed again in the next few days.

The Belgium international had just returned to action after almost two months on the sidelines but is now facing another spell on the treatment table.

“Lukaku underwent medical examinations at the Humanitas Clinic in Rozzano this morning, highlighting a strain in the myocardial scar of the femoral biceps of the left thigh. The player’s condition will be assessed again in the next few days.”

The Belgium international returned to action last week in Inter’s 4-0 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League.

He was introduced in the second half and scored his second goal for the Nerazzurri this season.

The Chelsea loanee played circa 20 minutes during Saturday’s 3-0 win against Sampdoria at San Siro when he was also introduced in the second half.

It remains to be seen how long he will stay out of action. Inter have already qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 and Lukaku will miss the away clash against Bayern Munich tomorrow. The Nerazzurri will face Juventus, Bologna and Atalanta in Serie A before the World Cup break.

Lukaku returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea last summer and the Nerazzurri are working to extend his stay at the club beyond 2023.
