Inter and Milan set up historic Derby della Madonnina

Inter and Milan are set to play each other in the next round of Serie A fixtures after the upcoming international break and after the strong start to the season for both sides, there will be an historic first in the next Derby della Madonnina.

September 16 will be the first time in history that Inter and Milan will face each other while tied at the top of the Serie A table.

Inter have been top of the table on 28 occasions when the two sides have met. Milan have been the league leaders at the time of 36 previous encounters, but never have they played while tied for the title.

Both teams have picked up maximum points from their opening three games of the 2023-24 season, a feat that no other side in the division has been able to match.

The Nerazzurri have picked up wins against Monza, Cagliari and most recently Fiorentina, whilst the Rossoneri have defeated all of Bologna, Torino and Roma

Inter are yet to concede this campaign and currently have the superior goal difference, although that metric has become is not particularly relevant given that the Serie A title would be decided by a one-off tie breaker if the teams were level on points at the end of the season.
