Inter and Juventus could do battle again for Nikola Milenkovic, as Fiorentina director Joe Barone admits he ‘cannot guarantee’ the defender will stay.

The Serbia international had already been close to an exit last summer, but the pressure is on now because his contract only runs to June 2023.

However, the asking price remains quite high at €18m, according to Sportitalia, thanks to interest from both Inter and Juventus in the 24-year-old.

Milenkovic is now more of a priority for the Nerazzurri, seeing as they lost out on Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer to rivals Juve in a deal worth €50m including add-ons.

“Both (President Rocco) Commisso and I would like him to stay, because we’ve got a good group here,” said director Barone in a press conference.

“It won’t be easy, if someone knocks on the door and tells us they are interested in him. We’ll see what happens, we would like him to stay here, but as of today I cannot guarantee that.

“The more days go by, the better the chances he’ll remain.”

The concern for Inter is affording to pay €18m for a defender who might not be a regular starter, considering the position if Milan Skriniar is not sold to Paris Saint-Germain.

Coach Simone Inzaghi did not disguise his frustration at the lack of reinforcements in defence even before missing out on Bremer.

Andrea Ranocchia was released as a free agent and remained in Serie A by signing for newly-promoted Monza.

As for Juventus, they will only really push for Milenkovic if Daniele Rugani leaves.

  1. Juve are not in for him, yes previous yrs we scouted him, inter will only buy him if they sell skriniar at the right price=which looks sketchy.

dont believe inter have came ut saying that 18m euros is too much for him, jut poor italian rumors=lazy so called journalist

  2. Mohammed @

Lazy reader. The only thing they say is that skrinisr needs to get sold for them to go after a replacement.
That isn’t brain surgery to understand that you don’t buy a expensive player if you don’t sell the player they planning to replace

  3. He’s not an elite defender like Bremer from what I’ve seen through the years, but still at 18m it’s a good deal for anybody considering he’s 24 years old and experienced.

  4. Milenkovic so much better than Daniele Rugani ,but how can we get Rugani to leave? Nobody wants him! Should have cashed in years ago

  5. @Gio you need to re-read my first comment again,

i know english aint your first language – i wrote “, inter will only buy him if they sell skriniar at the right price=which looks sketchy”.

Inter will only buy him (him means milinkovic) if skriniar is sold – exactly what you wrote – The only thing they say is that skrinisr needs to get sold for them to go after a replacement.

    Gio please learn english

  6. Juve’s Transfer strategy has always been of late to go after whatever target Inter is going after. Very little imagination or originality

  7. Mohammed@

I know English ain’t your first languish either.
You call the journalist lazy and you write that you don’t think any one from inter have said 18 millions are to much for milenkovic but what the journalist actually wrote is that there are concerns over paying 18 millions for the defender if not skriniar leaves because they then paid 18 millions for a defender that ain’t are a first choice option.

So please Mohammed learn English before you try to correct people when you clearly don’t understand what you are reading.
