Inter activate buy option for Lazio loanee Acerbi

Inter have reportedly activated the €4m buy option attached to Francesco Acerbi’s loan move, failing to get a discount from Lazio.

The 35-year-old Italian’s time in Rome came to a rather acrimonious end last year following his breakdown in relations with the club’s fanbase, pushing him to depart. He joined up with Simone Inzaghi at Inter, signing on a loan deal with a buy option attached.

Despite the initial doubts, Acerbi did well in his first season with Inter and crucially managed to keep Manchester City star Erling Haaland quiet in the Champions League final, perfectly advertising his abilities.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Inter had hoped to secure a discount on the €4m fee previously agreed with Lazio but their efforts were in vain, leaving them with a decision to make.

The Nerazzurri didn’t want to drag out proceedings, so used some of the €5m earnt from the sale of Lorenzo Pirola to Salernitana activate Acerbi’s buy option. The 35-year-old is now contracted to the club until June 2025.
