Inter are criticised in Romania for holding back goalkeeper Ionut Radu’s career. ‘He never plays,’ moans ex-shot-stopper Cristian Munteanu.

The 23-year-old came up through the Nerazzurri youth academy, and had loan spells at Avellino, Genoa and Parma.

However, he has not played a single match this season at club level and because Inter’s game with Sassuolo was postponed, it looks as if Samir Handanovic will return from COVID in time to stop Radu getting a look-in there either.

“I am disappointed for Radu, because if he were to play regularly, he’d be considered the first choice for Romania for the next 10 years,” Munteanu told Sport.ro.

“Instead, he hasn’t played at all in a year, it’s been a total waste. He has great quality, is tall, courageous, has quick reflexes and that necessary pinch of madness that a great goalkeeper needs.

“I think he is at least on the same level as Ciprian Tatarusanu, but he needs playing time. Unfortunately, he is in the same squad as Handanovic, who even at 37 is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”

Even when Handanovic does hang up his gloves, there are reports Inter are looking elsewhere for a replacement, the first choice being Udinese’s Juan Musso.
