La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Lorenzo Insigne doesn’t want to leave Napoli this summer and could stay at the Stadio Maradona without signing a contract extension before the beginning of the season.

His current deal expires in June 2022 and the Partenopei have not yet begun talks to discuss a potential contract extension for their captain.

Previous reports claimed Napoli need the 30-year-old to take a pay cut on his €5m-a-year salary, while Insigne wants a pay rise.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, reports the Napoli captain is ready to accept the same salary to stay at Napoli, but a meeting between the club and his agent has not been scheduled yet.

Insigne will return from holidays at the beginning of August to train with the rest of the team from Thursday 5.

According to the report, the 30-year-old doesn’t want to leave in the summer and is ready to stay in Naples for one more season without extending his contract.

It remains to be seen how this scenario would be handled by the club given that Arek Milik was left out of the Serie A and Europa League squad last season given that he had refused to sign a contract extension with the Azzurri.
