Lorenzo Insigne is “working hard” to regain the confidence of Italy CT Antonio Conte ahead of Euro 2016.

The 24-year-old has 11 goals and 10 assists for Napoli so far this season, with his form so impressive that there has even been talk of un-retiring Diego Maradona’s number 10 shirt.

However, after the forward pulled-out of the Azzurri squad with injury in October, Conte decided not to select him for subsequent games.

While the Coach insisted this was “a technical choice”, it’s thought he was angry after Insigne played for the Partenopei following his return.

“I’m working very hard to regain his confidence,” Insigne told Striscia la Notizia, as he received the gag ‘Golden Tapir’ prize for “deluding” Napoli fans with his goal in the draw against Milan.

“I hope the call comes as soon as possible.”

The Vesuviani missed the chance to return to the top of Serie A when they drew with the Rossoneri on Monday night, but Insigne isn’t giving up on the Scudetto.

“We were hoping to win, we expected a different Milan. We played our game though. We hope to make up for it, the League still has a long way to go and we’ll fight to the end.”
