Sky Sport Italia confirms Lorenzo Insigne is ‘tempted’ by an offer from Toronto FC, with the MLS side pushing for a January transfer.

SportMediaset broke the news of Insigne’s agreement with Toronto this morning, claiming that the Italy winger will move to Canada as a free agent at the end of the season.

Sky Sport Italia confirms that Insigne has an offer from Toronto on the table and is very tempted by the proposal coming from the MLS.

According to Sky, Toronto’s offer is even higher than the one reported by SporMediaset. The MLS side have reportedly offered an €11.5m-a-year deal with €4.5m add-ons.

Insigne to join Toronto FC as a free agent

Toronto are pushing for a January deal, but Insigne would prefer to end the season at Napoli and join his new club as a free agent in the summer.

Sky Sport Italia add that Napoli have not made an improved offer to convince Insigne to stay.

The Partenopei’s proposal is €3.5m-a-year, less than his current €5m-a-year contract.

  1. He’ll move to MLS. Even Giovinco is trying to get back in at Toronto FC

I see why Toronto FC are pushing for January, however. They want him in for the start of Training Camp in Feburary/ March which makes a big difference.

His Italy career is all but done, I would think. If he leaves in January, won’t even play in the Playoffs.

Clearly Insigne doesn’t want to abandon Napoli until the end but might as well. Don’t see how Inter don’t win it.

  2. Newsflash for Football Italia: Toronto is in Canada not the USA. He’d be moving to Canada to play in the MLS. I am a Toronto FC and Italy fan but I don’t think Insigne is worth anywhere near this amount of money. It’s crazy.

  3. If he decides to go to such a footballing backwater then that should be the end of his international career.

  4. LOL Why would he leave top level football at this age just for money?

Perhaps after 3-4 years, but now?! He can find a lucrative contract in Europe I`m very sure of that.

  5. Because even 1 penny more is enough for somebody to make the move. Say nothing of the less stress he would have playing in MLS.

  6. Tough decision for all involved, doesn’t say how many years the contract is but up to 15m per for say 4 or 5 years, nowhere in the world can he get that nor is he worth that.
His value to the team is more of an inspiration than of quality so perhaps it would be worth moving back up to 5m for 2 years.
A lot of questions up front though with him Lozano talking about moving on, politano mertens and persona aging. Very small window before they need to break it down and would insigne be part of the rebuild, most likely not. Take the money.

  7. Maybe he should move to Atlanta United and buy a nice house in Athens Georgia my hometown. 😄
