Lorenzo Insigne’s agent will reportedly meet with Toronto FC officials in Rome on Friday, but he wants to see out the season at Napoli.

The forward will be a free agent when his current contract expires on June 30.

According to the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper, representatives from the MLS club will be in Italy next week and the meeting has been set for Friday.

It will be attended by Insigne’s agent Vincenzo Pisacane and the Napoli captain himself.

Corriere dello Sport reports Insigne has agreed personal terms with Toronto

Napoli will play their first match of 2022 against Juventus in Turin on Thursday January 6.

He will reportedly receive a salary worth €11.5m per season plus up to another €3.5m in various bonuses to play in Major League Soccer.

However, the report states Insigne will once again reiterate he won’t leave Napoli until the end of the Serie A season in June.

That does mean Napoli are going to lose their star man without receiving a transfer fee.

  1. I seem to recall reading that the “€11.5m per season plus up to another €3.5m” figure is gross rather than net. Football salaries in Italy always seem to be listed net (e.g. Kessie wants 8-9 mil, that’s net not gross). Again from what I’ve read (elsewhere I guess), Insigne’s net salary will be more around 7.5 mil, and that’s including “in kind benefits” like housing, flights, car.
