Lorenzo Insigne met Napoli fans before his final match at the Stadio Maradona: ‘I’ve been crying for three days.’

The Italy international has signed with Toronto FC, where he will move at the end of his contract in June. On Sunday, he will play his last home game against Genoa.

A product of Napoli academy and a die-hard fan of the Partenopei, Insigne revealed that he has been crying for three days thinking about his final game at the Stadio Maradona.

“I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me. Napoli will always be my home even if I will no longer be here next season,” he told Napoli ultras during their last meeting yesterday.

“I won’t deny that I’ve been crying for three days. Every time I am outside the stadium, I get emotional. This has been my home for ten years, I am happy to celebrate with you on Sunday. Napoli will always be in my heart.”

The 30-year-old has scored 12 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions this season. He has played 432 games with the Partenopei, managing 121 goals and winning three trophies at a club level.

  1. A good young man , who gave his best for his home town. Just too many close calls as he couldn’t carry Napoli to the heights of Serie A. He will be better off in Canada without the pressure. Good Luck

  2. When Lorenzo is on form, he is absolutely brilliant and not so good games and not so good games for Italy. Overall, we all have to admit he did very well. He really played very well against Genoa yesterday. Yes, he did go for money but then again who wouldn’t at this stage of his career. I wish him the very best in Canada but I do not think he should be called up any longer for Italy. There are plenty of good young prospects for Mancini to choose from.
