Lorenzo Insigne’s absence from Toronto FC and the Italy squad is reportedly due to the tragic loss of the unborn baby he was expecting with wife Genny.

The former Napoli star had had strong start to his MLS career, but then vanished from the training ground and squad from September 8, officially due to a family matter.

The seriousness of the situation was confirmed by the fact teammate and fellow Neapolitan Domenico Criscito was spending time with Insigne to help him through this.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Insigne family is dealing with the loss of their third child, with Genny already six months pregnant.

The pair married in 2012 and have two sons, Carmine and Christian, born respectively in 2013 and 2015.

Insigne had been celebrating the pregnancy just last month at Toronto FC, putting the ball under his jersey and sucking his thumb after scoring a goal.

He scored six goals and provided two assists for Toronto FC before the setback and this also explains why he was left out of the Italy squad for the upcoming Nations League games against England and Hungary.

  1. Pretty sure Mancini was going to move on from Insigne anyways.

Condolences on the family tragedy, of course
