Lorenzo Insigne was involved in unsavoury scenes in the early hours of Sunday morning and was caught on camera showing the middle finger to a group of Toronto FC supporters during their MLS clash against Cincinnati.
The former Napoli captain is currently sidelined with injury and was not involved in Toronto’s game against the MLS Eastern Conference leaders, although was reportedly subject of insults, chants and gestures as he watched on from one of the corporate boxes.
The season has not exactly gone to plan for Insigne and compatriot Federico Bernadeschi, as Toronto currently have the worst points tally of any of the 29 teams currently competing in MLS with 22 from 31 matches.
While showing the finger to the Toronto supporter, or supporters, Insigne was also seen shouting words to the effect of: “f*** you, show some respect.”
The outburst has already led to speculation over Insigne’s future in Canada, with Calciomercato.com suggesting that the incident could lead to a move in the January transfer window.
Insigne is currently tied to Toronto until the summer of 2026, but as one of the highest earners in the division, the situation will not be tenable for much longer if the hostility continues.
