The Partenopei had won the first leg 1-0 at San Siro back in February, a lead cancelled out within three minutes by Christian Eriksen curling in directly from the corner flag.

Dries Mertens made history by netting his 122nd goal in the Napoli jersey, becoming their all-time top scorer ahead of Marek Hamsik.

They will face Juventus in the Final on Wednesday June 17.

“Inter did well, but we played our part and held out as a team. We wanted the Final at all costs and we achieved that. Now we need to recuperate and be ready for the Final in a few days,” Insigne told RAI Sport.

Ospina’s long pass proved decisive, as Insigne then rolled it across with a no-look ball for Mertens to score.

“Ospina has always had great feet, we tried this move a few times in training. He saw my run, created a great counter-attack and we brought home the result.

“It is strange to play in an empty stadium, but we have to do our duty. We thank all the nurses and doctors who worked so hard during this period, we dedicate the game to those who suffered so much and we hope this brought a little joy into their homes.”

It was particularly tough for coach Gennaro Gattuso, who lost his sister earlier this month to a terminal illness.

“We are all close to Gattuso, who is a great man even before a great coach. It has been a very difficult time for him and we hope this can give him a little moment of joy.”

Napoli will be up against Maurizio Sarri’s Juve in the Final at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.

“It’s a special feeling facing Juventus, but we need a top performance, better than this evening, and we’ll certainly prepare for it in the best possible way.”
