Lorenzo Insigne remembered the ‘unbeatable’ coffee at Napoli and reiterated his availability for the Azzurri following his move to Toronto FC.

The 31-year-old Italian forward left Napoli last month to join the Canadian outfit on a free transfer, signing a four-year contract. Insigne was soon joined by Federico Bernardeschi in Toronto, giving the MLS side a distinctive Italian flair. Most Napoli fans were upset to say goodbye to local boy Insigne, who scored 96 goals in 337 league appearances and was a talismanic figure for the club.

Speaking to Canadian broadcaster TLN, Insigne first discussed how he’s enjoying life in Toronto.

“My family and I are very happy. We are enjoying all the beautiful things that Toronto has to offer and that’s very important for us and we’re happy.

He commented on the famous coffee made by Napoli kit man Tommaso Starace and if he misses it.

“No, I miss him, but the president got a coffee machine and I appreciate his gesture. It’s good, but like you said, I miss Tommaso’s moka pot. It’s unbeatable.”

The Italian winger reflected on the Azzurri’s victory at Euro 2020 last year.

“I was very excited, it’s an emotion I can’t describe. These are things you dream of as a kid, to win an important trophy with the national team, it’s the best.

“To this day, when I see photos or videos with my sons, I still can’t believe it, it’s a very important milestone, it was an indescribable emotion and I’m hoping to live some of those similar moments here at Toronto.

Finally, Insigne discussed the Italian national team and if he expects a call-up following his move to the MLS.

“I spoke with the coach before and after signing, we send each other messages here and there. I always gave my availability, I accept all his choices because the coaches’ choices are sacred.

“As I always said, even in Italy, I was playing with South American players, Colombian players, Ospina would get called for the national team and he would do a lot of travelling, but they would still call him.

“I always gave my availability, but these are the coach’s decisions and I’ll accept them.”
