Lorenzo Insigne warns Napoli must ‘keep our heads down and our feet on the ground, because it’s a very, very long road ahead’ after a perfect start to the season.

The Partenopei won the opening six games for the second time in their Serie A history, having achieved this already in 2017-18.

They are top of the table and made short work of Cagliari, Victor Osimhen scoring one and earning a penalty, which was converted by Insigne.

“We’ve started well, but we need to keep our heads down, our feet on the ground, because it’s a very, very long road ahead,” Insigne told DAZN.

The crowd at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona was fired up this evening and gave Osimhen and Insigne standing ovations when they were substituted.

“It’s an incredible feeling, I am trying to enjoy it and repay everyone with my performances and helping the team to win the games.”

Luciano Spalletti has really allowed Napoli to turn a corner this season, after they finished fifth, failing to beat Hellas Verona in the final round.

“The coach wants us to enjoy ourselves while we are working. As captain, I can only say we need to keep our feet on the ground, as we missed out on the Champions League by a point last season, so we have to make up for that.

“We try to play Spalletti’s football, he knows we were disappointed to only be in the Europa League and he’s trying to lift us up.”

There was an error in the stadium announcement before kick-off, as Insigne was listed as wearing the Number 10 jersey, which was retired with Maradona’s death.

“I have my number 24, the 10 is untouchable, it belongs to a legend that made us Neapolitans dream and sit on top of the world. He is our idol and it’s right that it remains his.”
