The Partenopei got 91 points last year, a club record, but were still beaten to the Scudetto by Juventus.

In the summer Carlo Ancelotti replaced Maurizio Sarri on the bench, and the Neapolitans are aiming for silverware this term.

“I think it’s been my best year, if you look at the stats,” Insigne said in today’s Italy Press conference.

“Napoli have to win something, even if we know it’s difficult because we have a great team [Juventus] with a great squad ahead of us.

“We know it’ll be difficult, but like every year we’ll try to cause problems for them. There’s still a long way to go, and we’ll make our conclusions at the end.

“We can’t look at the fixture list, we can only think about ourselves. To get closer to them we need to win.”

Insigne has been playing as a second striker this season, rather than his role out wide under Sarri.

“The new formation was the intuition of the Coach. I didn’t do very well against Sampdoria on the wing, then he told me about this new position.

“I’ve always liked to play closer to the goal, and I’m doing well in the final third. I’m really happy.

“I think I met Ancelotti too late. He’s always smiling, and it’s hard to argue with him!”

Italy face Portugal in the Nations League on Saturday, and if they win there is still an outside chance of reaching the finals next summer.

“It’s difficult but not impossible,” Insigne said.

“We have a great squad, we’re strong, and we can cause them problems. We’ll be playing at home with a full stadium, and it’s up to us to respond.”
