Lorenzo Insigne apologised to Napoli fans after their 2-1 defeat to Roma. “We know that we can do better,” but continued to protest VAR decisions.

The Partenopei are sliding further away from the top spots and even the Champions League places with a run of poor results.

“We apologise to the fans, as we know that we can do better, but sometimes there are incidents like the ones on Wednesday that influence us,” Insigne told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We apologise to the fans, as we know that we can do better, but sometimes there are incidents like the ones on Wednesday that influence us,” Insigne told Radio Kiss Kiss.

Napoli were held to a controversial 2-2 draw by Atalanta midweek, with strong penalty appeals rejected in the build-up to the equaliser.

“We gave our all today, but everything went against us. Looking at the two matches, we didn’t put in the same performance as on Wednesday.

“It’s important that we stay calm, because if we let our heads drop, we won’t get out of this tunnel. We need to work with help from the coach.

“Our luck just isn’t in, as again we hit the woodwork twice.”

Roma had two penalties for handball, committed by Jose Callejon and Mario Rui.

“I don’t like to go back on previous incidents, but they do make a big difference. Today, the VAR intervened on Callejon, whereas on Wednesday the officials did not call the referee to have another look. VAR needs to work the same way for everyone.”
