Lorenzo Insigne scored his first Napoli goal since signing for Toronto FC and sent a clear message to the fans. ‘I will always love you.’

The captain came off the bench for his comeback after injury to play in the second half against Salernitana.

He earned and converted a penalty to put them 4-1 up.

Insigne then ran to the nearest camera, pointed to the Napoli club badge and mouthed: “I love you and I will always love you.”

Napoli opted not to extend his contract, which will expire on June 30, so he put pen to paper for a future in MLS with Toronto FC.

The Italy international scored a very special goal, because it was his 115th in the Napoli jersey, equalling the tally from the career of Diego Armando Maradona.

That puts him in joint third place in the all-time club charts, behind Marek Hamsik on 121 and Dries Mertens with 145, who was also on target today.
