Insigne, Immobile and Jorginho to quit Italian national team?

Lorenzo Insigne, Ciro Immobile and Jorginho all left Italy’s training camp yesterday and initial signs suggest international retirement may be on the cards for the trio.

The three players, alongside Marco Verratti, Gianluca Mancini and Domenico Berardi, were all given permission by Roberto Mancini to leave the Azzurri camp in Coverciano in order to return home to their respective clubs.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport, Insigne, Immobile and Jorginho’s decision could be a sign that all three are preparing to hang up their boots for the Italian national team following their disastrous World Cup play-off defeat to North Macedonia earlier this week.

Both Insigne and Jorginho have struggled with form this season at their respective clubs and Immobile is clearly a poor fit for Mancini’s tactical system. All three were heavily criticised by fans following the 1-0 loss in Palermo on Thursday this week.

No final decisions have been made yet, but considering that Italy’s next possible major tournament is over two years away, there’s a real possibility that a new Azzurri cycle will begin soon.
