Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne said he’s not focused on his own contractual situation at the Partenopei. ‘I don’t think about the contract, there’s time to discuss with the club’.

The Italy international has been a vital member of the Azzurri squad for years and continues to show his worth under Luciano Spalletti.

Napoli are unbeaten in seven games this term and have won all six in Serie A, drawing once against Leicester in the opening game of the Europa League.

Ahead of the game against Spartak Moscow on Thursday, the captain was asked about his and Kalidou Koulibaly’s roles as the two leaders in the squad.

“Nobody commands between me and Koulibaly, who are the captain and the commander,” Insigne told Sky Sport Italia. “We need the whole team, not just two players.

“We have been the same group for many years and that’s an advantage. We have always played great games, with excellent results and this year the coach has brought something more.

Insigne: ‘Napoli keep feet on the ground’

“The road is long, we have to work hard and stay with our feet on the ground game after game.”

Insigne said it’s time for Napoli to show off in the Europa League too but stressed the Partenopei must not take anything for granted against Spartak Moscow.

“This is a great competition,” he continued. “At Leicester we played a good game despite the start.

“Tomorrow, we will need a great performance, Spartak deserved to win the first game and in the end they lost.”

Insigne’s deal with the Azzurri expires next summer and the captain was asked about his current situation at the club.

“I only think about playing and about what happens on the pitch,” Insigne added. “My agent takes care of the other issues.

“I always put the team in front, I always work hard and I always arrive with a smile. I don’t think about the contract, there’s time to discuss with the club.

“My agent and the club will take care of it, I still have one year.”
