La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernadeschi want to return to Serie A from Toronto FC, and the same is true of Leonardo Bonucci, who joined Union Berlin barely four months ago.
Italy Euro 2020 winners Bernardeschi, Insigne and Bonucci want to return to Italy in the January transfer window, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Bernardeschi and Insigne joined Toronto FC in 2021, while Bonucci left Juventus for Union Berlin in September 2023. However, according to a report from the Pink Paper on Wednesday, they all want to return to playing in Serie A soon.
Bernardeschi has been linked with a move to Juventus and is on excellent terms with coach Massimiliano Allegri, but the Bianconeri have not yet made an offer and seem reluctant to invest in a hefty salary without a big-money sale in the current transfer window.
According to Gazzetta, Insigne would love to return to Napoli, but a second spell at the Stadio Maradona is impossible as the product of the club academy would be tricky to manage for Walter Mazzarri despite being a backup for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Lazio and Fiorentina have also been linked with the Italian winger, who hasn’t yet received an offer from the Peninsula.
Bonucci, on the other hand, was in talks with Roma but was dropped by club directors following protests from Giallorossi fans.
Il Corriere dello Sport has recently reported the experienced centre-back could join Genoa if Radu Dragusin leaves in January, but Gazzetta did not mention this option.
Surely, Bonucci wants to be part of Italy’s squad at the 2024 Euros and is seeking a team that can offer him consistent playing time this month.
