With the contract expiring after next season, the Azzurri are currently offering him a new deal worth €2.5m, which means he would have to take a pay cut of 50 per cent from the current salary of €5m a year.

The report suggests the negotiations between the winger and the club could become complex and painful for the two parties.

The 29-year-old, who signed a five-year deal back in 2017, has scored 13 goal in 23 Serie A games for Gennaro Gattuso’s side this term.
