Insigne saw red after insulting referee Davide Massa during Inter-Napoli on Wednesday.

Despite Gennaro Gattuso’s protests after the final whistle, reports of La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport claim Insigne apologised with the referee and his teammates in the locker room after the final whistle.

The Italy international could now receive a two-match ban but Napoli are reportedly ready to appeal the decision, if Insigne will suspended for two games.

With Juventus who have recently had an Alvaro Morata’s suspension reduced from two to one match, Napoli hope the same will apply to them.

Morata did also insult the referee in Benevento-Juventus, but the Old Lady’s appeal to reduce the ban was accepted.

Insigne didn’t reiterate his protests and apologised with the referee after the game, for these reasons Napoli hope the 29-year-old will only miss the next game at Lazio and not the home match against Torino before the Christmas break.
