Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne and midfielder Fabian Ruiz limped off during this evening’s trip to Sassuolo after suffering from muscular issues.

The forward had one of the best scoring opportunities of the first half when he dribbled into the box and forced an Andrea Consigli one-handed save.

He was substituted by Macedonia international Eljif Elmas during the half-time break.

According to DAZN, this was due to Insigne feeling his calf muscle harden and he was taken off as a precaution.

Fabian Ruiz scored the opening goal at the Mapei Stadium, but then limped off clutching the top of his right thigh and groin area.

This is a midweek round in Serie A and leaders Napoli have another big match coming up against Atalanta on Saturday evening.

Initial reports suggest Insigne is not a serious issue and was purely a precaution, especially with Victor Osimhen and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa out with long-term injury problems.

As for Fabian Ruiz, that might require more investigation.
