The Partenopei captain was sent off after protesting a penalty at San Siro, when Romelu Lukaku safely converted the spot kick and secured a 1-0 win for the Nerazzurri.

“I felt really bad in Milan, above all for having left the team with 10 men,” Insigne said at a press conference. “A captain shouldn’t do that.

“I’m sorry, yesterday the coach has few options in attack and there were already injuries. But we look ahead and think about Wednesday, which is important.

“We must claim three points after these defeats, even if the one against Inter wasn’t a fair result.”

On Wednesday, Napoli host Torino at the San Paolo and Insigne, who was given a one-match ban, will be back in the squad for the last game before the winter break.
