Rafael Toloi is not the only Atalanta star who will miss Wednesday’s Champions League match against Manchester United as Matteo Pessina, Berat Djimsiti, Robin Gosens and Hans Hateboer are also on the treatment table.

La Dea are the Group F leaders with four points in the opening two matches.

They visit Old Trafford on Wednesday night with several key players out of action.

Atalanta’s captain Rafael Toloi has been ruled out of the game with an adductor injury, but the Italy international has joined four of his teammates on the sidelines.

Djimsiti, Pessina, Gosens and Hateboer will all miss the Old Trafford meeting due to injuries.

Hateboer has yet to make his season debut as he underwent foot surgery in July. He will return to action in November.

The same goes for Gosens, who picked up a muscular injury during Atalanta’s last Champions League match against Young Boys at the end of September.

Matteo Pessina was stretched off during the Serie A match against Milan before the break and will remain out of action for two months.

Last but not least, Djimsiti underwent surgery after the forearm fracture suffered during international duty with Albania last week. He is expected to remain out of action for at least one month.

Atalanta beat Empoli 4-1 on Sunday, while United suffered a 4-2 defeat against Leicester City.

  1. I’d fancy Atalanta to do well if they were at full strength against an iffy United side. But some major players are missing, especially Gosens. A draw would be a good result given the injuries.
