There is some good news for Milan from the medical centre, as tests show Malick Thiaw does not need surgery for a muscular tear.

The defender pulled up clutching his hamstring during the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund a couple of weeks ago.

It was immediately evident that the damage was serious and there were even suggestions he could require an operation to help fix the deep lesion in his thigh muscle.

However, Thiaw underwent tests today that highlighted improvement, so he will continue with conservative treatment options.

Surgery would’ve ruled him out for at least four months, although it is still going to be quite some time before he is ready to play again.

The 22-year-old is not expected back on the field until February 2024, so January reinforcements in defence are still very much on the cards for coach Stefano Pioli.

Thiaw had made 11 Serie A appearances this season and five in the Champions League.
