Giorgio Chiellini will miss Sunday’s Euro 2020 clash against Wales with a flexor problem and according to Sky Sport Italia, it is still unclear whether the Azzurri captain will recover in time for the Round of 16.

The 36-year-old sustained a flexor injury and was replaced in the first half of the game against Switzerland yesterday.

Chiellini underwent medical examinations in Florence today and although his injury is not ‘serious’, he is expected to miss the upcoming game against Wales on Sunday.

According to Sky Sport Italia, his physical conditions will be assessed daily and it is still unclear whether he will recover in time of the Round of 16 or even for the quarter-finals.

Italy have qualified for the knock-out stages with a game to spare and a draw against Wales on Sunday would be enough for Roberto Mancini’s men to win group A.

Whether Italy win their group or not, they will play the Round of 16 on June 26.
