FIFA President Gianni Infantino says video refereeing is “not easy, but important”.

It was announced today that Italy will be one of the nations to trial Video Assistant Referees, starting from next season.

“This is a topic which has been on the table since television has existed, more or less,” Infantino said in an interview with Sky.

“It’s not an easy thing, but it’s important. We’ll discuss it, and we’ll find the right solution.”

Infantino was also asked about corruption within FIFA, having been elected as a reform candidate in February’s election.

“If someone commits a crime it’s right that they be punished. Our investigation is limited compared to the authority a state can wield.

“I don’t know if there are corrupt individuals or groups, but I hope not.

“If there are they should make the choice to leave FIFA now, because otherwise, sooner or later, we’ll get them.

“They’ll be hunted down and punished.”
