Angel Di Maria was an important part of Juventus’ 2-0 win over Spezia, earning praise from the Italian media for his contributions.

The 35-year-old Argentinian winger has had an interesting season in the Piedmont capital. In the run-up to the World Cup, Di Maria was heavily criticised for fans, who felt that he was too focused on the tournament in Qatar and not particularly interested in proceedings in Turin, only managing one goal and one assist before the break in November.

Since the World Cup victory, Di Maria has proven himself a key element of Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus squad and his work in the win over Spezia was emblematic of this, scoring just 11 minutes after coming on the pitch.

La Gazzetta dello Sport called Di Maria “’indispensable’” and suggested that “only with him do Juventus flourish.”

Corriere dello Sport echoed these sentiments, underlining how much he contributes to the Bianconeri, saying “even at half service, his quality is vital for Juventus.”

Tuttosport touched on Di Maria’s instant impact against Spezia, highlighting how “it only took him 10 minutes to aim and beta Marchetti.”
