The Scudetto race is absolutely wide open now, as Milan and Napoli are together on 57 points, Inter have a game in hand, with Juventus and Atalanta not entirely out of it either now, as next week there’s Napoli-Milan.

It is an extraordinarily exciting title battle in Italy this season and the number of matches postponed due to COVID outbreaks have created even more uncertainty.

Napoli and Milan are now joint leaders on 57 points, with the Partenopei ahead on goal difference, although ultimately it will be head-to-head difference that decides the position if two clubs are on the same points.

That will be decided next weekend when Napoli and Milan face off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Inter are only two points behind, but in theory could be the sole leaders, as they have a game in hand to be played against Bologna.

Juventus aren’t entirely out of the Scudetto race either, as they are now just seven points adrift of the Serie A leaders, who after all could stall each other next weekend and close the gap even more.

Even Atalanta aren’t to be entirely excluded, as they have 44 points and two games in hand, including Monday evening’s encounter with Sampdoria.

12 thought on “Incredible Serie A Scudetto race: Napoli, Milan, Inter, Juventus, Atalanta”
  1. Juve cannot be in the title race after all of the points dropped and injuries to the team. plus Napoli only playing Serie A is a huge advantage. Next to me is Inter as they are already out of CL and will focus on serie A.

  2. I agree with you Ali G. Anyone other than Napoli or Inter winning the league at from this point onwards will be a failure for those two. For the reasons you mentioned. As Juve fan, considering the injuries and bad form we’ve had, i’d be content with qualification to UCL and coppa italia. Having said that, I would prefer Milan to win the title other than Juve of course.

  3. Juve dropped too many points but there’s still all to play for since there’s the head to head v inter in a few weeks and Napoli and Milan cancel out next week. Consistency is key at this stage. Rooting for Napoli because they’re playing the best football.

  4. Not a huge amount of quality at the top, but the excitement is far better than any other league.

Hopefully Atalanta get back on track and we’ll have one of the best run-ins we’ve ever seen.

  5. Napoli still in there is great they had so many injuries and will have a full squad back to compete they deserve it die the way this club is run for many years and also keeping books in balance it would be a well deserved reward of you see juve Milan and inter spending so much money they dont even have
    … greetz from holland

  6. It would be more exciting if teams actually played good football. The league is basically competitive and ‘exciting’ because all the top teams are playing like garbage.

The quality of serie a is absurdly low this season.

But I suppose a competitive low quality league, where many teams can potentially win, is better than a low quality league where the winner is known before the league even started like in the rube years.

  7. Don’t bother speculating. I am from the future. There will be no Scudetto winner this season. They will all bottle it simultaneously.

Napoli, Inter, Milan and Atalanta all played really goog football up until a few weeks ago. They had a bit of a dip in form, but that’s very common in all leagues around this time in the season, with all the other fixtures piling up, afcon etc. Decent football’ll prob be back soon. Juve also have the potential to play attractively under the right coach.

  9. Juve should have stuck with Pirlo. Attack minded coach who was developing players and trying to get an attacking outlet such as Vlahovic. This would give the team more freedom to play and be able to attack with a big focal point. Allegri reverts to an aging defence and dropping deep to try and close out games after a goal and this is not what juve need. This has cost Juve this season and will do again. Yes there are injuries but Juve have enough quality to play attacking football against any team.

  10. It is Inter‘s to lose. Napoli and Milan don’t have the mindset and have and will drop points when the pressure is on. Which is why as Juve fan it is so frustrating the poor start of the season with so many dropped points. Even though they went on this stretch of not losing, the ties against weaker clubs will be their downfall.
