Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero discusses rejected bids for Eder and Roberto Soriano.

The Blucerchiati were on the verge of selling Soriano to Napoli, but the deal collapsed at the last minute, while a bid from Inter for Eder was also rejected.

“Soriano? He’s our player, and we’re glad he stayed,” Ferrero insisted in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“Napoli had the documents ready for [Camilo] Zuniga in five minutes, and we took 25 minutes for Soriano. Luckily I said not to deposit them, if not we’d have had both together.

“Soriano is not a Napoli player on loan to Sampdoria, we felt we had been taken for a ride. They wanted Soriano, as did other clubs, but in the end we’re happy everything stayed as it was.

“We’re not a discount store, Sampdoria deserve respect.

Milan? They’ve shown that when they really want a player, they get him, clearly they didn’t have that desire for Soriano.

“As for Eder, I want to clarify something. He has a five-year contract with us, he renewed in March last year. Inter offered us millions, but for us Eder was not for sale.

“Sometimes money can make you change your mind, but that wasn’t the case this time.

“I didn’t sell Eder or Soriano, and I didn’t want to sell, since they didn’t offer the money for their value, and the deals didn’t represent their real value.

“The happiness of me and my lads is worth more than money.”

Ferrero has also had some harsh words for Lazio President Claudio Lotito in the past, but insists it’s all in good fun.

“I respect Lotito, he’s a hard worker. Lotito’s only enemy is Lotito. I don’t have anything against the [Lazio] fans, I love all fans who love football.

“All I’d say is to have some fun, with civility and – why not? – a bit of creativity. I only love my Sampdoria, everything else is boring.”
