Ciro Immobile was ready to join the Azzurri squad for their Nations League clash against Hungary but his departure was blocked by Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

The 32-year-old Italian striker was called up by Roberto Mancini for this international break but did not take part in the 1-0 win over England due to muscle problems. After receiving good news in today’s medical tests, which seemingly confirmed that he’d be ready to return to action, he was expected to join the squad for their trip to Hungary.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Immobile was ready to join up the Azzurri squad but Lazio president Lotito personally intervened, blocking his departure and requesting he return to Rome.

Lotito is concerned that the 32-year-old’s recovery was rushed in time for the match and didn’t want his star striker to exacerbate any issues for the Nations League game, a game Italy are desperate to win.
