Lazio captain Ciro Immobile paid a special visit to a young goalkeeper who is waiting for a bone marrow transplant.

The young man, called Giulio, plays in goal for the Under-16s ASD Città di Cerveteri squad and is a lifelong Lazio supporter.

He has a rare auto-immune disease and has been in the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome for six weeks waiting for a bone marrow transplant.

When Immobile was told that Giulio was a Lazio fan, he went to visit the young player.

Lazio are also helping to organise the search for a suitable donor, who must be aged between 18 and 36.

Bone marrow aplasia or aplastic anaemia is a disease that causes the red bone marrow to disappear and stop creating red blood cells, white cells and platelets.

Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic’s life was saved by a bone marrow transplant two years ago when he was diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

  1. Beautiful gesture by Imobille.
Hopefully Giulio can get through this, stronger & inspired, with his disease fixed permanently.

  2. A lovely moment for Giulio to have this visit, now fingers crossed he can get the vital treatment that he needs as soon as possible. Someone out there will be found. Forza Giulio.

  3. This is the type of players we want around us, not those despite clubs crumbling in debt because of the pandemic, they are still asking for more money or else they will go away on zero and go earn more money somewhere else. Aguero and Erikssen are good example, God save their lives miraculously, that simply should teach these greedy players that MONEY is not everything.
