The striker has four goals in seven Serie A games so far this season, and scored twice for Italy to turn the game against Macedonia around on Sunday night.

Following difficult spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla, the Biancocelesti striker feels he has been reborn.

“Now I’m flying, it’s great,” Immobile told Corriere dello Sport.

“Football is beautiful because it offers you a second chance, then it’s upto you to take it. I have to thank Lazio for the trust and opportunity they gave me.

“They took me to Rome, I’m doing well there and it took me to the national team. I’ve returned to being the goalscorer I was.

“[Coach Simone] Inzaghi immediately fussed over me like a child, he made me feel important. In the national team I’m experiencing the same situation was at Lazio.

“Giampiero Ventura? I know what I can give him and what he can give me, let’s just say our relationship certainly hasn’t closed since we both left Torino.”

Immobile then discussed his spells in Germany and Spain.

“The fact is I experienced two difficult years, first at Dortmund then at Sevilla. That meant that when I went to the Azzurri I wasn’t ready and focused, and I paid for the low confidence I had at club level.

“I’ve always said that goals for the national team are the pinnacle for every player.”

Graziano Pellè was sent home for disrespecting Ventura, but his fellow striker has sympathy.

“I don’t enjoy a teammate having problems,” Immobile said.

“Graziano is a great lad, he didn’t do what he did maliciously. Still, the decision to send him home was down to the Coach and the Federation, we were all focused on the match.”
